THE BIRTH OF A BRAND

Living, working, and growing

See how voice & tone are decided.

1 / Stakeholders survey

When budget is limited, design a survey to learn about the business, the brand, and our target audiences from stakeholders.

2 / Voice & Tone

Analyze the survey results and nail down brand persona, voice principles, and tone spectrum.

3 / Create a living document

Build up the foundation then add in details as the product develops a bit more each day.

Things Fall Art

CASE STUDY

THINGS FALL ART

Things Fall Art is an art dealing app. Users can purchase artwork and attend live auction on app.

I was introduced to the project when the UI designer already finished high-fidelity user interface.

My main responsibility was to cooperate with the graphic designer, offer design suggestions, and rewrite UI copy for the main user flow, which includes onboarding and (transaction) live auction.

Challenges:

  • Account setup flow: entry fields problems, lack of necessary guidance, user flow redesign

  • Live auction (include transaction) flow: lacks assurance, urgency, or confirmation.

Contributions:

  • UI copy

  • Added and merged screens

  • Offered design suggestions

  • Refine and redesign user flows

Highlights:

  • Intentional friction during transaction

  • Predict possible user errors and intentions

  • Offer at least 2 CTAs at the end of flow: stay & move on

  • From screen-level writing to flow-level design

PACE
PACE

Pace is a fitness tracking app, which help users stick to their workout plan and actually make a difference on their life.

This was the final student project I worked on while enrolling in the UX Writing Hub.

My task was to redesign the onboarding flow, which included Wireframing and writing.

My goal was to analyze the cause of low completion and find a solution.

Challenges:

  • Cluttered UI

  • Messed-up inputs in goal-setting task: activity, time length, frequency, metrics, etc.

  • Naming: inaccurate and misleading

  • Low completion

Contributions:

  • Redesigned onboarding flow

  • Wireframing

  • UI copy: microcopies, tooltips, pop-ups, CTAs

Highlights:

  • CTA buttons & Conversion

  • Progress tracking

  • Taxonomy

  • Diagram

  • Entry field

  • Psychology & Behavioral science

UX BLOG

Error message

Error Messages

A case study.

How to write a deliverable from scratch?

Where and when it appears in a flow?

Which UI to choose: pop-up, toast, banner, or a new screen?

How important/emergent is the message?

How interruptive the deliverable can be?
